Brooklyn Cemetery is 9 acres and established in 1882. It is an African American cemetery with over 1,100 burial sites. However, over the years, it has become overgrown with vines and trees. Betas will trim trees, branches, and bushes. We will also move cut material to the chipper to make mulch, and then spread the mulch to sunken grave sites.

​​OCPS title 1 meeting/ Bingo Night

Details: OCPS is having Bingo Night on Tuesday, march 19th from 5-8pm. OCHS pto needs about 15 volunteers to help out with the actual game of bingo, handing out prizes, and helping out with handling food in the cafeteria. Bingo night will end around 7-7:15 but we will still need about 4-5 members to stay for clean up. There will also be a title 1 meeting from 5:30-5:45 and 1-2 volunteers are needed to help babysit for 30 mins, then they can move over to help with bingo night. Project Safe Meal Donation

Project Safe is an organization that works on stopping domestic violence by providing a safe environment for victims to get professional help. As Beta Club, we will be donating a lunch meal, so that these victims can get out of the house and eat lunch while getting this professional help. The meal has been created already so if you are interested, come sign up for something that has not been taken yet. If everything is taken, then we will begin to take doubles of items. Bring the item(s) you sign up for to Mrs. Mize's or Mrs. Maffeo's room on September 29th. Oconee County Farmers Market Setup and Takedown

The Oconee County Farmers Market needs volunteers on Saturdays to help vendors setup their tents/tables in the morning and break them down in the afternoon. There will be an afternoon and morning shift each of these dates. The morning shift will be from 7:00 - 9:00 AM and the afternoon shift will be from 12:30 - 2:00 PM. Parking Lot Duty

IAGA Diwali

The Indian Association of Greater Athens is having their annual Diwali dinner and show. The morning shift will be helping out with decorations and setting up. The first evening shift will be helping the crowd move to the show, assist in food and drinks, and clear up tables after food. The second evening shift will be helping in cleaning up and breaking down. The evening shifts will be provided with dinner (authentic Indian food!)

Camp Invention

Camp Invention is exactly what it sounds like: a camp for inventors.  Your job as a BETA club volunteer will be to show up every day between June 26 and June 30 at 8:00 and stay until 3:30.  The camp is primarily for elementary and middle schoolers, so your role will be to serve as an assistant camp counselor.  You'll be working with young children who are there to learn how to construct their own buildings and inventions.  The signup is:

Oconee Presbyterian Church 5K Fundraiser

Oconee Presbyterian Church is in need of volunteers for their fundraiser this spring. They are hosting a 5K & Fun Run to raise funds to benefit their youth program. The race will be held at Oconee Veterans Park on Saturday, May 6, 2017. The I mile Fun Run begins at 6:30 and 5K at 7:00. We are looking for 8-10 students to help. We specifically need volunteers to hand out water,  race monitors for the trail and clean-up.  We would need volunteers to 6:00-8:30 pm.

The German Club wants to do a service project with refugees who are being relocated to Georgia. The organization with whom we are working is based out of Atlanta and is called New American Pathways. The main thing the relocated families need is diapers. The majority of families coming to America have at least two children under the age of four and are in desperate need of help outfitting the children with diapers, wipes, etc. $10 of diapers/wipes equals one hour

Tornado Relief
When: All donations need to be at OCHS no later than 8:30 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 2, 2017.

If you go above and beyond any other obligations for any other clubs to make additional donations, you will receive 1 Beta Club donation hour per $10 spent. Please ask someone in the front office to sign your service log when you donate.
On Friday, February 3rd a small group of students from OCHS will deliver supplies to the National Fair Grounds in Perry, Georgia. The fair grounds are serving as a collection site for donations and personnel there will distribute items as need in areas impacted by recent storms. Each school in our cluster will be accepting donations. You drop off donations in the front office of OCHS.

         This is Tiffany White from the Oconee County Library Friends. We are planning our upcoming winter book sale and would love to have some OCHS students volunteer with us again. As you know, we have been very pleased with the wonderful students who have generously given their time to help our community library.

OCHS Swim Meet

We are in need of beta club volunteers for January 21st for a swim meet at Ramsey UGA. Parking is free and there are 3 shifts to select from all will be 5 volunteer hours for each shift. The first shift starting at 9:30AM, second shift starting at 1PM and third shift at 4:30PM. The students can come find me on the pool deck near the announcer. We will need 5 students per shift. OCAF Thrift Sale Set-Up

There is 1 shift - 9:30am to12:00 noon. This is an important OCAF fundraiser, and proceeds raised allow them to continue to offer quality programming for our community.

Hardigree Wildlife Sanctuary is having an “Oconee Day of Service"
When: Monday, January 16, 2017 (MLK Day), 9 AM – 2 PM

Water and snacks will be provided.  Bring work gloves, hard-tooth rakes and limb loppers (if you have them) – some tools will be available.  You can help even if you don’t have tools.
Work to be done:  spreading  mulch, pulling weeds, eliminating privet, trimming limbs, loading limbs onto trailer, clean up Camp Site, expand trails, etc.

Mingle with Kringle

Mingle with Kringle, an OCAF holiday tradition, is a FUN filled and FANTASTIC day of entertainment for children!  Each session consists of a free photo with Kringle, festive storytelling, Holiday crafts, construction of the Peaceful Village, Story Time with Mrs. Klaus and an entertaining puppet show every child (and parent) will love.  OCAF is in need of lots of volunteers on Saturday, December 10 to help with the annual Mingle w/ Kringle event (click here for more information). We need between 10 to 15 volunteers to help with the Craft Stations & the Photos with Santa area. We have 2 shifts - 9:30am to12:30pm & 12:30pm to 3:30pm, and students are welcome to work both shifts if they would like. Oconee Library Haunted House

On Friday October 28 and Saturday October 29 from 6-8pm, there will be a Harry Potter Haunted House!! This is a big deal around the community, and every year has gotten bigger and better. A lot of volunteers are needed the week before to make it a success. There will be a lot of preparations- it's lots of crafts, decorating, painting, costuming, and other projects. We also need Volunteers to participate in the Harry Potter Haunted House as Harry Potter characters! . We would like two volunteers per set-up/take-down shift!  Volunteer set-up/take-down days are 10/20, 10/22-26, and 10/30. Volunteer days for character participation are 10/27-29 from 5-8:30pm. ​

ESP's Jump Fly Festival
The 2016 Jump Fly Festival for EXTRA SPECIAL PEOPLE is in its 6th year to raise money for ESP’s Summer Camp and After School Programs.  The event takes place Saturday, May 14 at the Monroe Airport.  We have 50 people who skydive for ESP by raising a minimum of $600 to participate.  The event has fun activities throughout the day for the community, families and children……airplane rides, horse back riding, arts & crafts, food, food food, and special visits from Elvis, UGA Cheerleaders, Hairy Dog, Star Wars, etc etc!  Last year the event raised $50,000 for ESP!!

OCES Field Day - It's a Field Trip!!!
Do you love working with 3rd-5th graders? Beta Club will be working OCES Field Day again this year. OCES Field Day is 
Friday, May 13 from 8:15-2:15. We will need to get 25 volunteers who will work at an assigned game/ station for the day. Lunch will be provided. See Mrs. Mize ASAP to sign up. Volunteer space is limited!

Chorus Dessert Theater Fundraiser
Ms. Williams would like desserts (cupcakes, cake, pies, cobbler, brownies, etc.) for the chorus fundraiser!
Bring them to Mrs. Williams's chorus room by April 30th.

Cooling Bandannas
Sewing project making bandannas for disabled farmers. Email if you're interested, and I'll send you the link for the youtube video with instructions. Supplies are in Mrs. Mize's room. Just let me know if they run out.
Expected to keep track of hours. Due by April 12. Turn in all completed bandannas and unused/leftover supplies.

Help with Mock AP STAT EXAM
Beta Club helpers are needed to set up the Civic Center on Thursday, April 21 starting 15 minutes after school dismisses.
 
On Saturday, April 23rd, for the mock exam, we will serve snack at 10:00, so we could use 5-7 students from 9:30 to 10:30 to assist with that effort.  Then lunch will be served at noon, so another shift of students (5-7) could be on hand from 11:30 to 12:30. You can stay and work both shifts if you want.

FCCLA's Princess Tea Party Fundraiser
When: April 23, 2016

  • Decorations- 3:30 on 4/22
  • Setup- 10:00am-1:00pm (full)
  • Event- 1:00pm-4:00pm
  • Clean Up- 4:00pm-6:00pm
FCCLA is looking for extra help with their Princess Tea Party Fundraiser. As always, this project only counts for Beta Club if you are not already working on this project for FCCLA. You are welcome to see Mrs. Kozup or me anytime prior to the event to answer any questions or to get more information. Boys and girls 12 and under are invited to the event. Encourage your friends and family to attend!

Relay for Life
Relay for Life is on Friday, April 22. The theme for Relay for Life this year is Relay Rockstars. 
There are several opportunities to earn service hours:
     Before the Event:
  • Help set up the campsite from 3:30 pm to 5:00 pm 
     During the Event (from 6:00 pm until 9:00 pm):
  • Help direct car parking (email Mengqiao Gao to sign up!)
  • Work the photo booth
  • Help teach line dancing (see Ms. Williams to learn line dancing beforehand)
  • Toes on the Track-- volunteers are needed to walk around the track during the event
  • Build, decorate and enter a cardboard car in the car show (with a partner). See the attachment here for more details.
     *Volunteers are encouraged to wear tie-dye to the event.
     After the Event:
  • Clean up-- goes until 11:45 pm. Make sure you have a ride!

Oconee County Primary School: Family Bingo Night
Family Bingo Night at Oconee County Primary School is Thursday, March 24 from 5:30-8:30. Help is needed to set up, to direct people, during the dinner offering people refills and taking plates, and cleaning up afterwards. FCA Spring Extravaganza
FCA Cheerleading is having their annual FCA Cheer Spring Extravaganza which is a Craft Show, Silent Auction, Fashion Show, and Luncheon on Saturday, March 19th, from 11:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. Students are needed to set up the tables and serve food/drinks. 18 people are needed. Pope Family Golf Tournament and Barbecue 
When? Saturday, March 19
What?
 Set-up before the BBQ - 4:30 p.m. - 5:30 p.m. and/ or Clean-up after the BBQ 8:15 p.m. -9:15 p.m.
Where? The BBQ will be held at Oconee Presbyterian Church right next to the high school between Dr.Harters office and the baseball field. 
___Note: If anyone would like to stay for food it's $10 for a ticket and it benefits ESP___

OCHS Band Fundraiser 
OCHS Band program's Outback Steakhouse Dinner & Raffle which will be held on St. Patrick's Day at the Oconee Co. Civic Center (Thursday, March 17). They will need up to 10 people (non-Band members) for about 3 hours (5:30-8:30pm-ish). They need about 3-4 people to be at the Civic Center at 4pm to set-up and the others to be there at 5:30. If you are interested, please email Mrs. Maria Twedt to sign-up: mtwedt@oconeeschools.org

OCAF needs volunteers to help move furniture donated to their Annual Thrift Sale from their storage unit to their School Street building.

Brave Run
Volunteers are needed for the upcoming OCMS Brave Run to be held on Saturday morning,March 5, 2016.  We are looking for Beta Club volunteers from 7:00am - 11:30am on March 5th.  Email Laura Moore (lauralmo@bellsouth.net) if you are interested.  **They will also be asking for volunteers from the National Honor Society, so please only sign up to represent one group.**

Volunteers need to arrive at the middle school by 7:00 (a little earlier if possible).  Wear Oconee blue and white and dress warm!  Ask for Laura Moore when you arrive.   Biscuits and coffee will be provided for volunteers.

Valentines Cards
We are doing a Valentines Cards drive for the seniors at Magnolia Estates. We need 42 cards made for their residents. A handmade card with a sweet message would be wonderful.  If you would like to participate, make 1-3 cards and keep track of the time you spend on them.

Animal Shelter

On Saturday, February 6th and 20th the PetSmart adoption events run from 11am - 3pm. Ideally, we would like to have two volunteers to help at the dog tent and two volunteers inside the store to help with the cats. We will need a total of 4 volunteers for each of the following time slots: 11am - 1pm and1pm - 3pm. During that time volunteers will be expected to interact both with the animals and PetSmart customers who are considering adopting them. Volunteers helping with the dogs will also be able to take them brief walks during the adoption event. It can get quite busy at times and volunteers might be able to assist OCAS with adoptions. Email Lisa Hogue at lisamhogue5@gmail.com to sign up.

Athens Homeless Shelter
The Athens Area Homeless Shelter would like donations such as toilet paper, paper towels, diapers, shampoo and conditioner, sanitizing wipes, trash bags, and over-the-counter cold medicines (DayQuil, NyQuil, Tylenol Cold/Sinus, cough medicine, etc.).
Bring donations to Mrs. Mize by October 30, 2015.
